The Truth About the New UK Aesthetics Regulations

No Panic. No Pressure. Just the Facts – from Herts & Essex Supplies

If you’ve scrolled through Facebook groups or WhatsApp chats lately, you’ve probably seen the headlines:

🛑 “Only medics will be able to inject!”

⚠️ “Licensing starts in January – act now!”

💸 “Take this course or risk being banned!”

Let’s take a moment to breathe.

Yes, change is coming to the aesthetics industry in England. But no – you do not need to panic or spend thousands on rushed, fear-driven training.

✅ So, What’s Actually Happening?

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has released the results of its first consultation on licensing non-surgical cosmetic procedures in England. The goal?

To improve public safety and create clear, consistent standards for training, hygiene, insurance, and premises.

A 3-tier risk system has been proposed:

  • Green (low risk) – e.g. microneedling, superficial peels, LED therapy, non-ablative hair removal

  • Amber (medium risk) – e.g. Botox, dermal fillers, PRP, fat-dissolving/weight loss injections

  • Red (high risk) – e.g. Brazilian Butt Lifts, deep peels, thread lifts, IV infusions, breast/genital fillers

👉 Only Red-tier procedures will be restricted to medical professionals in CQC-registered premises.

👉 Green and Amber treatments (which most non-medics offer) will still be allowed — provided you meet the future licensing and training requirements.

📅 When Will This Start?

Here’s the timeline based on current government guidance:

  • A second consultation will take place in early 2026

  • Legislation will then go through Parliament

  • A transition period will be introduced so practitioners can comply

  • High-risk (Red) procedures will be prioritised — likely late 2026

  • Green/Amber licensing will follow, probably in 2027

In short:

🕒 Nothing is changing today.

🕒 Nothing is changing next month.

🕒 You have 18–24 months before any changes take effect for most popular treatments.
